Stop Cold Callers Knocking

Unfortunately despite the coronavirus, criminals still try and commit crime in our communities.

Crime can be known to happen on our own doorstep with cold callers and bogus officials claiming to be someone they are not.

We have designed you a poster you can print off and pop in your window to deter unknown callers. Or if you’re concerned for a vulnerable neighbour, you can still keep to social distancing by printing one off for them and posting it through their letterbox.

Here are some other tips for what to do if someone calls at your door:

  • Check to see who it is by using the spy or look through a front window.

  • Always put the chain on before you open the door.

  • If you don't know the caller, ask to see their identity card. Check it carefully, and keep the chain on while you do this.

  • If you're still not sure, ask the caller to come back later. You can then check their story by phoning the organisation or company they claim to represent.

  • Ensure your back door is locked.

  • Watch out for anyone who says they're in a hurry. Don't let them pressure you.

  • If you have any suspicions at all, don't let them in.

  • If you're still not happy, webchat the police online or phone them in an emergency, and tell them what's happened.
